Flood

I’m struggling to put into words what happened to my city five days ago.

How do you put into to words 100,000 people evacuated from their homes; 10% of the population of my city.

How do you put into words closing all of downtown for 2 days.

How do you put into words vehicles being moved blocks due to flood waters

How do you put into words estimated billions of dollars of damages

How do you put into words no transit access into downtown for the foreseeable future

How do you put into words a call for 600 volunteers and having thousands show up

How do you put into words thousands of empty homes and only 13 reported break-ins

How do you put into words 100,000 people evacuated and only 1,600 people needing to find refuge in shelters

How do you put into words a guarantee that, although the grounds were under water only 36 hours ago, our Stampede will happen and will be a celebration of out city.

While the flooding has been devastating and is unfathomable, the outpouring of love and resilience of my city has truly been remarkable.

Never have I been prouder to be a Calgarian.
